De Beers Consolidated Mines: Environmental Impact Assessment Process for Bulk Sampling Activities, Sea Concession 6C, West Coast
De Beers Consolidated Mines (Pty) Ltd (De Beers) has submitted an application for a Prospecting Right (DMR Ref No. NC30/5/1/1/2(12189PR)) over Sea Concession 6C off the West Coast of South Africa. As part of the Prospecting Right application, De Beers plans to undertake bulk sampling activities within the Sea Concession area. An application for Environmental Authorisation (EA) in terms of National Environmental Management Act (Act 107 of 1998) (as amended) is required for the planned bulk sampling activities. SLR Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SLR) has been appointed as the independent environmental assessment practitioner to undertake the Scoping and EIA process in terms of the EIA Regulations, 2014 (as amended) for the above-mentioned project.
The Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) has been made available for a 30-day public and authority review and comment period from 7 September to 8 October 2020 in order to provide I&APs and authorities the opportunity to comment on the proposed project and the draft EIR. A full copy of the report is available for download below. For comments to be included in the final EIR, comments should reach SLR by no later than 8 October 2020 to the contact person indicated above.
