Biography

John is a qualified archaeologist and offers heritage and archaeological advice from earliest design consideration through to factoring in the results of archaeological surveys to ensure mitigation by design is achieved where possible. John’s scope and responsibility on projects involves close liaison with local heritage officers, Historic England and other stakeholders to ensure compliant delivery in heritage terms. He has earned respect within the industry and sector for his ability to manage and resolve complex heritage challenges with commercial awareness, whilst maintaining the highest standard of professional integrity. His near 20 years as a heritage consultant has allowed a greater appreciation of all heritage issues that must be addressed as part of the planning process across the UK.

John is familiar with, and has first-hand experience of, both rural and urban rescue archaeology. He is experienced in compiling and researching a variety of desktop studies, either to support environmental impact assessments (EIAs) or to provide archaeological supporting information for planning applications. He applies his archaeological experience to a wide variety of projects, ranging from major new residential and mixed use development proposals to renewable energy projects, with experience across the UK and Ireland. John has also acted as an expert heritage witness at many public inquiries across England and Wales and has extensive experience of local plan examinations.
