Challenge
Abbotsford Private Hospital is a dedicated rehabilitation facility for people with addictive disorders and psychological impairments located within inner-west Perth. The approved expansion sought to more than double inpatient capacity (and corresponding staff numbers) as part of a trend of continued growth in demand for mental health treatment services both within the local area and nationwide.
Solution
Given the internal constraints associated with parking, SLR worked with Healthe Care to devise a holistic approach to travel and parking demand management. This was achieved through the development of best practice strategies to encourage the use of active transport modes (especially by staff) as an alternative to the use of private vehicles in tandem with a comprehensive parking management plan.
The key outcomes of our involvement in this project include the following:
- Transport Impact Assessment
- Travel Plan
- Parking Management Plan; and
- Subsequent approval of the proposal by the State.
Impact
Parking management techniques and sustainable travel measures proposed by SLR were instrumental in securing development approval through demonstrating best practice traffic/parking management and active transport planning.
