Pyramid Hill Gasification Facility Trial
- Client Name
- IQ Energy Australia
- Location
- Pyramid Hill, Victoria, Australia
Challenge
IQ Energy and Advanced Energy Technologies propose to establish a trial facility in regional Victoria to process problematic waste feedstocks through a compartmentalised gasification system to recover energy. The trial will be run over a two-year period and will trial numerous source feedstocks generating robust data on the performance of the compartmentalised gasification system. It is envisaged this will be used to support the full scale commercialisation of the technology across regional applications within Australia.
SLR were engaged to prepare a Research, Development and Demonstration (RD&D) Licence Application to the Victorian EPA prior to the commencement of the Environment Protection Act 2017 in July 2021.
Solution
SLR worked closely with the Victorian EPA Development Approvals Team throughout the application process and continue to work with them under transitional requirements to secure one of the first EPA Pilot Project Licences in the state of Victoria.
SLR’s RD&D Application was accompanied by the following supporting technical documents:
- Desktop assessment of persistent organic pollutants
- Air quality impact assessment
- Noise and vibration impact assessment
- Environmental monitoring plan
- Environmental risk assessment
- Trial sampling and monitoring plan
Impact
Our team was successful in preparing a detailed RD&D Application complete with all supporting technical assessments, risk assessments and monitoring plans in accordance with EPA requirements and requests for further information from Victorian EPA Development Assessment group during the development assessment process.
