Challenge
SLR were enaged to prepare a Wind Turbulence Assessment Report for the proposed South West Precinct development at Bankstown Airport, in accordance with Civil Aviation Safety Authority requirements. The main objective of this report was to advise planners how to devise building module dimensions and locations that would best satisfy wind shear and wind turbulence constraints.
Solution
For the Master Plan Application, a formal assessment of the proposed structures was completed. This included consulting with the project team to finalise the preliminary recommendation and help select one of the two options prepared for further quantitative assessment utilising Computational Fluid Dynamics Assessment.
A three dimensional model was then created of the latest proposal and a detailed report was provided to satisfy the wind shear and turbulence criteria in the draft updated National Airports Safeguarding Framework Guideline B – 2016 Guideline B.
