Challenge

Following the submission of the planning application in 2012, we advised Hodson Developments on transport planning and highways matters, liaising closely with Ashford Borough Council, Kent County Council and the Highways Agency.

Solution

We took on the role of lead consultant and principal designer for the strategic infrastructure works. This involved coordinating architects, landscape architects and M&E Consultants to optimise the design process.

We addressed drainage early in the process not least because it was integral to the functionality of the first and future phases of development. The design of strategic infrastructure roads and sewers were also prioritised, allowing land parcels to be accessed for development.

Having managed the delivery of the first phase of off-site access, we are now working closely with the developer to develop the second phase of infrastructure, so works can commence on site to unlock future land parcels.

Impact

Chilmington Green provides 5,750 new homes, as well as retail, community, social and recreational facilities. It has its own high street, a secondary school, four primary schools, a park and extensive green space.

Our strategy ensures that Chilmington Green is connected to the centre of Ashford by pedestrian routes, cycle connections and a dedicated, high frequency bus service.
