ENERTRAG - Final layout Plans and EMPrs for Jessa Wind Energy Facilities and Associated Grid Infrastructure, WC

Notice is hereby given in terms of Regulation 37 published in Government Notice No.982 under Chapter 5, Part 4 of the National Environmental Management Act (No. 107 of 1998) (NEMA) and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations (2014) (as amended) of the submission of the Final Site Layout Plan and Final Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) for the authorised the authorised Jessa Cluster WEFs and Grid Connections.

Project Overview:

ENERTRAG South Africa (Pty) Ltd (ESA), is proposing the development of three (3) Wind Energy Facilities (WEFs), namely Jessa Z; Jessa M and Jessa S their associated grid connection infrastructure, approximately 15 km south west of Beaufort West Town, Western Cape Province, and are located within the Beaufort West Renewable Energy Development Zone (REDZ) 11. The proposed WEFs will connect to the nearby Eskom Droerivier Main Transmission Substation via 132 kV transmission lines.

Final Layout Plans and EMPrs:

The Jessa Z, Jessa M, Jessa S WEFs and their associated grid connection infrastructure received Environmental Authorisation (EA) between June and October 2022 from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE).

In terms of the conditions contained in the EA (condition 13 and 14) the Site Layout Plan and EMPr for the Jessa Cluster WEF was not approved and must therefore be amended and/or finalised for approval from the DFFE prior to commencement of the activity. The Site Layout Plan and EMPr must also be made available for public comment to all registered Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs). In this regard the Applicant has prepared the Final Layout Plan, Final EMPrs (including associated Substation Generic EMPr), related Management Plans and undertaken the specialist walk-through’s as per the conditions of the relevant EA and would like to submit the documentation for public review.

SLR Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SLR), an independent firm of environmental consultants, has been appointed by ESA to undertake the Site Layout and EMPr finalisation process for the Projects.

Status

Notice is hereby given, in terms of the EIA Regulations, 2014 promulgated under NEMA, that the Final Layout Plans and Final EMPrs prepared for the above-mentioned project has been made available for a 30-day public review and comment period ending 24 June 2024.

Should you and/or your organisation wish to comment on any aspect of the Final Layout Plans and Final EMPrs, comments should be forwarded to SLR at the email address and telephone number shown above.
