Branksome Hall - Athletics and Wellness Centre (CAN)
SLR was retained by our Client to provide acoustical design guidance, regulatory permitting and construction vibration monitoring for the new Athletics and Wellness Centre at Branksome Hall in Toronto. The new centre will replace existing facilities and will house an aquatics / recreation centre including a dining hall, a natatorium, fitness facility, meeting rooms, gymnasium and dance studios. Acoustics, noise and vibration integrally affected the design and functionality of the building, with key design objectives that included: ease of communication, acoustical privacy, freedom from noise disturbance, control of noise and vibration which could affect noise-sensitive spaces – all to achieve comfortable, functional environments. To meet the design objectives a balance was struck between space requirements, aesthetics, financial restrictions, building service and facility management requirements. SLR assisted in finding this balance by working with the building design team.
Construction of the new facility required that potential noise and vibration impacts from new building equipment be evaluated for compliance with the requirements of the Ministry of the Environment, as well as those required by City of Toronto Bylaw 514-2008 for control of construction vibrations.
