EIA Process for the Proposed Desalination Plant and Water Carriage System to Secure Water Supply to the Central Coast, Windhoek and En-route Users
NamWater has been assigned to undertake a feasibility study for the development of a Desalination Plant and Water Carriage System to secure water supply to the central coastal area of Namibia, Windhoek, as well as en-route users (i.e. towns). The feasibility study is financed by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany through the KfW Development Bank. The findings and recommendations of the study shall form the basis of a decision whether to implement the project, the most suitable project alternatives, as well as input into the subsequent EIA.
SLR Environmental Consulting (Namibia) (Pty) Ltd and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) (South Africa) have been jointly appointed to undertake the Scoping phase of the EIA process for the project.
A Background Information Document (BID) has been compiled to inform the public of the EIA Scoping process, the project description, key environmental and social issues identified to date and to provide an opportunity for Interested and Affected Party input into the Draft Scoping Report to be compiled. The BID has been distributed for public review and comment until 15 November 2019. For inclusion in the Draft Scoping Report, all comments must reach SLR via the below contact person by no later than 15 November 2019.
A copy of the BID is available for download below. The BID also provides information on public information-sharing meetings to be held in various locations in Namibia between 4 and 8 November 2019.
