Biography

Professor Laurie Pickup, International Director, has almost 50 years’ experience in delivering 100 international research and demonstration projects in the field of smart and sustainable urban mobility, transport planning and social inclusion.

He has engaged in all 8 EU Framework Programmes and undertaken projects, many of which as coordinator, involving multi-sector mobility partners spanning economic, transport, information technology, social, gender, energy and environment domains.

These achievements were recognised in 2019 when he won the CIVITAS Lifetime Award by the EU’s Research and Innovation Programme, Horizon 2020 (H2020).

He offers a wealth of experience in meeting the needs of various programme managers - including those from the EBRD, UN, World Bank and UKAid - and working effectively with partners from diverse cultures. His projects have supported strategic development in more than 40 different countries across Europe, USA, Africa and the Middle East resulting in new models for understanding and realising behaviour change towards innovative and low carbon transport.

He has published 100 deliverable reports, 38 papers, 5 books, 8 articles, 4 government reports and delivered numerous key note presentations at international conferences.
