Biography

Mark Heap is based in our Perth office and has over 35 years of varied geotechnical engineering experience working on major projects for tier one clients, including Rio Tinto and Anglo American, as well as other smaller mining entities. When based in Australia, Mark undertook operational support work and studies for projects in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America, as well as Australia and has worked with most common commodities including Iron Ore, Gold, Diamonds, Potash, Polyhalite, Tungsten and Manganese.

Mark’s technical experience has focussed on open pit stability studies, underground block cave/SLC studies, geotechnical exploration programmes, hydrogeological investigations, mine plant and tailings dam investigations, tailings dam construction supervision, commercial and residential structures, and pavements.

Mark has worked in an operational environment at various locations including Argyle Diamond mine and Boddington Gold Mine. In a consulting role, Mark has undertaken and managed numerous studies from Order of Magnitude through to Feasibility and Detailed Design.

Mark has also successfully developed and mentored geotechnical teams in both an operational and consulting settings and can communicate in French and Bahasa Indonesian, at a basic level, as well as fluently in his native language, English.
