Biography

Paul Curtis is Director of the Research and Development team with 16 years’ experience in delivering sustainable mobility and development planning projects. He manages the company’s programme of R&D projects working with cross-sector partners from Europe, the USA, the Middle East and Africa.

He leads research into the ways in which new planning techniques, mobility services, technologies and policies can support low carbon development whilst unlocking environmental and economic benefits.

He develops bespoke sustainable mobility strategies for masterplanning projects containing innovations in the field of: street design; mobility hubs; last mile logistics; carbon modelling; demand responsive transport; Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans; electric vehicle charging and the ‘vision and validate’ approach to transport planning.

He is effective at engaging public and private stakeholders and assessing user needs in the process of designing and delivering tailored sustainable mobility strategies and solutions.

Paul has led pioneering work on the design and enabling of mobility hubs in the UK, working closely with the planning authorities of Garden Villages as well as related architects, developers and mobility operators providing the vision and rationale for their incorporation into these strategic sites.

He has developed tools which help the transport planning team to deliver vision-based communities based around accessibility, placemaking and mobility. A new tool calculates the trip internalisation and decarbonisation potential of masterplan designs, whereas Transport Decarbonisation Plans help employment sites achieve sustainable mode share amongst employees through measures to Avoid, Shift and Improve commuting journeys.
