Planning and environmental support for Bylong Valley Way telecommunications

Challenge

The project involves the installation of approximately 1.8 km of telecommunications infrastructure in and around the Greater Blue Mountains Area and Bylong Valley Way, Murrumbo New South Wales.

As part of the civil works, our client required planning and environmental support to satisfy legislative requirements and approvals including a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) to New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Solution

SLR has been providing planning and environmental support to the contractor for the civil works as the works are within World and National Heritage overlays.

Our team supported the project by undertaking a REF which included reviewing flora and fauna assessments, carrying out and reviewing an Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC) self-assessment, reviewing Aboriginal Heritage due diligence assessment as well as applicable rules, regulations and legislation.

Impact

Our team was able to determine that the proposed activity will not involve direct clearing impacts and will not have any direct impacts on native vegetation and habitats. Due to the presence of native vegetation and potential threatened species habitats surrounding the subject land, there is the potential for minor indirect impacts during construction. Accordingly, standard construction site mitigation measures were recommended, namely erosion control, rehabilitation of disturbed lands, hygiene protocols and weed management.
