Our Europe Mining Advisory team, led by David Smith, has grown significantly over the past 12 months to strengthen our in-house offering through an expanded team in Resource Geology, Mining and Geotechnical engineering, and Processing expertise.

David says “SLR has really committed to long-term sustainable investment in the mining sector and it’s exciting to see an influx of new recruits arrive. We have attracted top talent and senior leadership from other consultancies and operations to build a high calibre group to support and advise an increasingly buoyant sector."

The European Mining Advisory team works alongside our established Mine Waste, Environmental and Social, as well as Water services to deliver primarily to markets in Europe, West Africa, and Central Asia from a London base. However, David highlights the benefits of operating as a global company, “we collaborate seamlessly with our colleagues in Canada, US, Africa, APAC, with a growing presence in South America, to mirror our clients’ organisations by working across time zones.”

The Mining Advisory expansion has bolstered SLR’s offering in the feasibility study and front-end services space; bringing in experienced Project Managers with a history of helping mining companies successfully and responsibly advance their assets through the feasibility process. The team has further developed its existing strong reputation in M&A due diligence, having secured several high-profile reviews on behalf of prominent London financiers in recent months.

Marco Maestri recently joined the European Mining Advisory team and said “SLR is an exciting place to be, and we are continuing to build on that momentum; the culture of collaboration across all disciplines and time zones is second-to-none and importantly, despite our growth we remain nimble and responsive with minimal internal bureaucracy.”

SLR is excited to be sponsoring and participating at Mines & Money London on December 1st and 2nd, exhibiting at booth B01. Our growing team of mining advisory, environmental, tailings and water staff are excited to catch up with current clients and find solutions for new ones!

SLR now boasts over 1800 consultants with an ambitious net zero target of 2030. This is a commitment which Brandon Stobart, SLR’s Environmental & Social Leader for Europe, believes goes hand in hand with the current industry focus “as the world moves to a more sustainable future to combat the impacts of climate change. Mining will play a key role in providing the critical raw materials to enable the transition to green energy and decarbonisation; supporting this shift, both from an extractive but also ESG perspective, is fundamental to SLR’s long term mining sector strategy."
