Nature and the wide range of ecosystem services that it provides, are fundamental to our societies, economies, and human existence. Historically the value of nature and biodiversity has not been priced into our economies, and consequently, human activity has led to its significant decline globally. The current decline of natural capital poses a substantial risk to business operations and the global economy, with a significant amount of global GDP highly dependent upon nature and the natural environment. Fortunately, a renewed focus on environmental sustainability in business is driving change that seeks to address this decline and build a more sustainable future for everyone.
Natural Capital Overview
Nature & Biodiversity loss is already impacting our economies and it is increasingly recognised that businesses need to understand their impacts and dependencies upon nature; together with understanding the risks that this presents and the potential opportunities arising from having a better understanding of their interface with nature and biodiversity. There is also an increasing need to engage with stakeholders and report and disclose this information through a range of market led frameworks, legal requirements and ESG (environmental, social and governance) reporting initiatives.
SLR supports businesses in understanding their interface with nature, developing strategies and actions to drive change and to meet the increasing requirement to report, disclose and demonstrate a positive engagement with nature.
Our goal is to enable businesses to implement robust, science-based actions to reduce their nature-related business risks and improve outcomes for biodiversity on their sites, in their supply chain and beyond. Ultimately, our wider aim is to be a significant part of the drive for real change that brings about the protection and enhancement of all components of nature.

Reporting on impacts and dependencies upon nature and natural capital through a range of frameworks, including Taskforce on Nature-based Financial Disclosure (TNFD), Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP biodiversity module) and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD biodiversity module), GRI, ISSB SBTN etc.

Developing broad ranging Nature, Natural Capital & Biodiversity strategies around impacts and dependencies for existing operations, supply chains and external conservation/ nature projects to underpin business culture and to align with reporting and disclosure requirements. Includes capacity building, training and education.

Undertaking specific unit or monetary valuation of natural capital assets and ecosystem service flows.

Nature-based Solutions
Developing projects and schemes which provide restorative benefits and natural solutions as an alternative to engineered solutions, and to help address nature loss and climate change impacts. This includes the development of solutions for improved air quality, water quality, carbon sequestration, soil remediation, drainage, flood risk, and more.
Nature Positive
Advising on biodiversity net gain, environmental net gain and other metrics, calculation of metric scoring, biodiversity credit schemes and project implementation.
