Broom Quarry fugitive dust monitoring

Challenge

Tarmac have been extracting sand and gravel from the Broom South Quarry since 2013. SLR have been working with the site since 2014 with regard to all dust and air quality related issues.

Solution

Having designed and implemented the site’s current dust management regime, SLR’s air quality team manage the ongoing monitoring and monthly sample collection on behalf of the site. SLR have seen the entire process through, from designing the monitoring regime to deploying the dust gauges, managing stakeholders on behalf of the site and preparing monthly summary reports of the dust monitoring results for submission to the local authority.

Impact

SLR have been working with the site for approximately 7 years, over which time there hasn’t been any major dust complaints from local residents, suggesting that the scheme in place is effective.
