CMAQ Day Hill Road Adaptive Traffic Control Signal System

Day Hill Road is a two-way arterial which experiences peak directional congestion due to the presence of several major commercial, industrial, and office developments within the corridor such as an Amazon distribution facility, Voya, Alstom, and The Hartford. The Town of Windsor engaged MMI, now part of SLR, to design and implement Adaptive Signal Control Technology (ASCT) on Day Hill Road to address the aforementioned traffic issues and to provide efficient traffic flow within the corridor.

The project includes system optimisation and installation of new adaptive signal controllers, vehicle detection, and fibre optic communications interconnection at 11 intersections along a 3.5-mile section of Day Hill Road from State Route 75 to State Route 187.

The project also involves the preparation of a Systems Engineering Analysis Form (SEAFORM) in line with federal requirements for Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality funded projects, development of ASCT requirements and specifications, fibre optic communications design, procurement services as well as implementation and systems integration oversight.
