Onshore Environmental Monitoring for a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Project

Cabo Delgado, Mozambique

TEPMA1 and Mozambique Rovuma Venture S.p.A (MRV), respectively the Area 1 and Area 4 Operators, are joint proponents of the approved LNG Project.  The LNG Project is designed to produce and gather natural gas from the offshore Area 1 and Area 4 Concessions in the Rovuma Basin, transport the gas onshore to the Afungi Peninsula, process the gas in onshore LNG trains and associated facilities and export the natural gas in liquefied form to international markets. 

In order to meet the required commitments to the regulatory authorities and project lenders, SLR was appointed conduct onshore environmental monitoring on the following aspects for a 12-month period:

  • Ecology (including monitoring of catchment water levels, surface water quality, vegetation, roadkill and other wildlife encounters, macro-invertebrates, fish, wildlife, Palma skinks, wetland birds, crab plovers, and bush-meat trapping);
  • Noise (including scheduled and ad hoc monitoring);
  • Groundwater (including abstraction volumes, groundwater levels and groundwater quality); and
  • Air quality (including passive, continuous and spot-sampling monitoring).
