Hive: Proposed 600MW Tankatara Solar PV Plant, Gqeberha, Eastern Cape

November 16, 2022

Hive Hydrogen South Africa (Pty) Ltd (Hive) is proposing to develop a 600MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant on Portion 1 of Farm 643, Tankatara.  The site is located along the Sundays River between the Addo Elephant National Park and the Coega Special Economic Zone (SEZ).  The project is proposed as one of the renewable energy sources to power Hive's proposed 1 350MW capacity Green Hydrogen and Ammonia Project being planned within the Coega SEZ (subject of a separate future EIA process).  The solar PV plant components would include solar panel arrays covering a footprint of approximately 920 ha, a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for the storage of surplus energy, an on-site substation, transmission lines and related transformers, inverters, internal roads and operational buildings.  SLR has been appointed to undertake the required Scoping and EIA process for the proposed solar PV facility.
