Biography
Durwin is a Principal Landscape Architect based in our Melbourne office with specialist skills in landscape and visual impact assessment (LVIA), landscape design, 3D visualisation and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). He has primarily worked in the industry sectors of mining and quarrying, landscape rehabilitation, renewable energy, including wind farms, concentrating and photovoltaic solar farms, geothermal, pumped hydro and associated grid connection infrastructure. He also has substantial experience in roads and highways, railways, industrial facilities, power stations, transmission lines, pipelines, oil and gas, water and telecommunications.
Durwin is highly experienced in LVIAs, being the primary focus of his 21+ year career. He has undertaken LVIAs on many major infrastructure projects where potential impact to landscape and visual amenity was critical to the overall success of the project. He has a proven track record in 3D modelling, GIS, data management and assessment methodologies which have repeatedly withstood the scrutiny of panel hearings, stakeholder and community engagement.
His expert witness experience includes giving evidence on LVIA and urban character at panel hearings. His stakeholder engagement includes liaison with client and project stakeholders, attendance at community information sessions and visits to residents to discuss landscape and visual impact and mitigation.
