Fuel storage tank replacement

Client Name
State of Connecticut Department of Transportation
Location
Connecticut, USA

Challenge

After decades of use, the underground fuel storage tanks at many of the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s maintenance facilities needed inspection and replacement. SLR was awarded the contract from the state of Connecticut to perform these inspections and provide the construction services for this project.

After the initial inspection of the sites, the state provided a district-wide task order assignment for the project, starting with the most in-need facilities first. Multiple sites were created under one construction contract to provide the state flexibility as the sites were redeveloped under the multi-year project.

Solution

SLR’s construction services team removed the underground fuel storage tanks, product supply piping, fuel pumps/islands, and fuel dispensing accessories. To facilitate the continuation of work by the state during construction, SLR installed temporary fuel dispensing tanks and pumps at each of the locations.

After the construction site was cleared of pre-existing material, SLR installed at each of the targeted stations new aboveground fuel dispensing tanks and pumps, bollards, site lighting and security to ensure that these new stations would provide adequate service to the state’s active workforce.

State building inspectors were brought in after services were complete to ensure that all state and federal code compliances were met or exceeded.
