Challenge

SLR are providing highway design for the redevelopment of Stansted Northside. Planning Permission has been granted by Uttlesford District Council and refers to demolition of existing structures and redevelopment of 61.86Ha to provide 195,100sqm commercial / employment development predominantly within Class B8 with Classes E(g), B2 and supporting food retail/food/beverage/nursery uses within Classes E (a), E (b) and E (f) and associated highway works, substation, strategic landscaping and cycle route and other associated works with matters of layout, scale appearance and other landscaping reserved at Land North of Stansted Airport.

Solution

SLR’s Transport Engineering team provided advice and drawings to support to the transport planning team for the initial planning application and future RMAs. Improvements include road widening, new access junction and signalisation of a large National Highway owned roundabout. We are now developing the detailed design for all junction improvements and site re-development for approval from landowners, National Highways and Essex CC.

Impact

As the works are progressing, we are also working closely with the contractor and other consultants to move the works into the construction phases. We approached the design and approval process, meeting all conditions and ensuring all stakeholders were satisfied with the delivery of the scheme.
