The MORE project was a cross-sector R&D initiative, funded by the European Union. The international consortium of five city authorities (Budapest, Constanta, London, Lisbon and Malmö) supported by ten private sector organisations and NGOs. The research and demonstration work analysed how urban planning and new street designs can improve the efficiency of five city transport corridors, reduce conflicts of road users, improve air quality, health, economic growth, enable new mobility services and new sustainable behaviours.
SLR coordinated the activities of the five city demonstrations, including the delivery of a co-creation framework, through which new street designs were piloted via stakeholder engagement and evaluated through enhanced micro-simulation modelling.
SLR delivered the assessment on future road user profiles – including their mind-sets, gender values and lifestyles – to determine their responsiveness to the ongoing technological revolution. The team also devised a new methodology into the appraisal of carbon emissions from an entire street (both functional and embedded carbon) to support low carbon growth.
SLR was co-author of the resulting publication: Better Streets for Better Cities: A handbook for active street planning, design and management. SLR apply this knowledge of effective street design to their wider transport planning services.
