Transport assessment and travel plans for New Era Square

Client Name
New Era Square
Location
UK

Challenge

The New Era Square development is a major new urban destination in the heart of Sheffield. It will provide 694 student bedrooms in three buildings with a central plaza surrounded by retail and international restaurants and bars. There will also be business accommodation including offices and conference space.

The central plaza will form a key pedestrian and social link connecting the already vibrant area of London Road with the city centre. The square will operate night and day with café seating and open-air events.

Solution

We prepared a detailed transport assessment and travel plans to support the successful planning application for this mixed-use scheme.

To facilitate the delivery of the central plaza at the heart of the project, a stopping up order was needed to accompany the planning application. A number of service areas also had to be accommodated with access by different vehicle types. The routing of service vehicles, and their impact on on-street car parking was given detailed consideration as part of our work, as was the management of a basement level car park.

Impact

The planning application was successful for this mixed-use scheme.
