Challenge

Edge Hill University is a long-standing client. We have assisted with the development and implementation of its campus masterplan, including the development of sports facilities within the greenbelt in order to free up brownfield land for other educational and residential development.

We have also developed its parking and access strategy which included the construction of a new signalised site access junction, new car parking spaces and the introduction of a strict parking permit system.

Finally, we have continually monitored, evaluated and updated the university’s travel plan, which aims to encourage staff and students to travel by non-car modes of transport. As a result, the Car Park Management Strategy is currently being refreshed and the parking permit system is being automated and tightened to better meet the sustainable aims of the University.

Solution

We work very closely with the university’s Estates and Facilities Management teams, which gives us a detailed understanding of how the university functions. This, along with strong relationships with officers from West Lancashire Borough Council and Lancashire County Council, has led to a successful partnership.

Impact

The development of the campus has enhanced the university’s status and reputation, with numerous awards received for the quality of the campus environment and student accommodation.
