WestConnex motorway development

Client Name
NSW Transport (RMS)
Location
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
  • Acoustics & vibration

Challenge

WestConnex is a 33-kilometre link between Sydney’s west with the airport and the Port Botany precinct in New South Wales. Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) proposes to widen and upgrade approximately nine and half kilometres of the M4 Western Motorway, extend the motorway via tunnels and also include an interchange with provision for future connections.

Solution

In order to inform the environmental assessment for the proposed project, and to meet obligations under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, RMS required a consultant with extensive experience in RMS Policy and Guidelines relating to operational traffic and construction noise and vibration assessment. SLR was engaged as the preferred consultant and undertook the following works:

  • Assess the potential noise and vibration impacts associated with the construction and operation of M4 East, M4-M5 Link and M5 Widening
  • Working with Sydney Motorway Corporation through the delivery of the EIS, submission stage and providing technical input and guidance through to determination of the project
  • Prepare a noise and assessment report for the M5 widening outlining noise and vibration issues and potential mitigation measures including the likely effectiveness of these measures.
